Devil's Bride- The Devil and His 'Bride'
There’s a sale of manga in a bookstores I seldom go to, and i found this manhwa. I’m familiar with the title because of Boy Princess so I decided to buy it. What attracts me to this manhwa is that it has the same ‘vibe’ or ‘aura’ Boy Princess has. The same beautiful drawing and the same not-so-extraordinary-but-surely-there’s-a-twist story. I’d only read the first volume so bear with me.
There’s not a lot to say, really. There’s nothing great with the characters… the Devil wanted to be human, and the human wanted to be with him forever. Nothing stands out. Moving on to the story, I think that creating a living creature has always been enchanting for us, humans. So, with that being said, it drew you in. And if you already read Boy princess, you just know that there’s something in there that will make you regret putting yourself in a situation where you’ll have to think and think about the sadness in this world.
So, I’ll stop with that review first. Since right now, that’s exactly what I’m feeling.
I must admit, I really thought the person in the picture is a freakin girl. I mean, look at the pose! The hair! Right? But anyway, this shouldn’t be about that.
I’d only watched the first 4 episodes but I’m really impressed. The first episode already gets you on the edge. The main focus of the episode ‘First Blood’ is Megumi. Right of the bat her character is given a pretty good background story. She’s obsessed with leaving her boring life in the village but her obsession with something else is holding her back. Natsuno, the main protagonist of the story is shown as arrogant and antagonistic, not really the cool yet lovable type. But he’s okay. 🙂
The story is pretty straightforward at the start: new family arrives, strange things happen. But the mood of the story is really dark and creepy. I’m watching it at night and all I can think about is opening the lights. It also give a lot of hints about the Shiki but it never gives too much away, and this keeps the readers wanting more. The only problem is, the ‘epidemic’ part of story is quite slow. I mean, yeah it’s only been four episodes, but it feels like 20. The best thing, on the other hand, is Megumi’s creepy- stalker character. I swear I’d rather be fat and ugly than to have an admirer like her. Creepy. I also like the relationship between Toru and Natsuno. I know the bacground story for Natsuno, as of now, is cliche but it’s still great.
Anyway, so far so good. Definitely worth the download and in the future, my money.
I’ll update this after I watch more episodes. 8/10
Angel Beats- Otonashi, Yuri-pe and Kanade
When I first heard about Angel Beats, I was told that the main protagonist, Yuri-pe, looked like Haruhi Suzumiya from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. True enough, she does. That’s what really attracted me to this anime. I have no idea about the story or what-so-ever and I really thought it’ll be a rip off of MHS, I was just hoping it would be a good one. So, I downloaded all the episodes.
The first episode isn’t really that good. It was like, nonsense for me really. It’s basically about a group of bitter teenagers blaming God for their misfortunes and rebelling because they can’t move on. It’s original but really crap. Then, I decided today to keep watching it. And I must say, I was fucking wrong.
Angel Beats isn’t anything like MHS. Yeah, it’s about a guy who basically lets himself be ordered around by an eccentric girl leader, but it’s not really focused on that. It’s about rebelling and fighting to not disappear because they have a deeper purpose, a lingering regret. The characters are given depth and made realistic by the following episodes. They aren’t just brats who are bitter and the story isn’t crap. It’s sad, painful and inspring. There’s friendship, hope and courage. Though it’s not delivered in a serious way, it’s there; together with humour and action that you’ll definitely love.
It’s a great anime. I’ll definitely crossing my fingers for a second season. Those who can share some news, link them.
P.S. I don’t do new anime reviews, I occasionally do if I started watching it. I’m usually too lazy to download and keep up with anime so… just recommend some.
