Love. Regret. Moving On. Angel Beats. [One Last Time]

Angel Beats- the Guild

I really hope that with this third post, I can do justice for this anime.

Angel Beats is about a group of kids who are unable to move on and are trapped in purgatory. At first it would seem that Yuuri-pe would just be a reap off of Haruhi Suzumiya, and the story would be too absurd and frankly, stupid. But just hang on and continue watching. Coz if you don’t, you don’t know what you’re missing.

This anime is about dying with so much regret and sadness that you’d willingly trap yourself in a made-up world, trying so hard to continue living and never giving up- all for the sake of your life and your memories. It tells the story of how these kids finally moved on and accepted their fate, they surrendered theirself to fate and to God, knowing fully well that they’ll, in a way, die again. It’s about how love have once again prevailed. It’s really all about unconditional love: the lost and gain of it.

I feel sorry for the people who didn’t get or who weren’t able to appreciate this anime. The main theme isn’t original but the way it is presented, with the high school students fighting and angel as well, it is truly a one of a kind story. Also, the characters each have their own story, they aren’t just there for show, they have development and twists. Expecially Yuzuru, you think he’s the main protagonists, that somehow he is the saviour of the Guild… tunrs out it’s not him. I really liked the twists. Even though it brought Yuuri-pe one step closer to being Haruhi Suzumiya with all the God thing.

Bottom line of this whole review: Don’t miss out. This is an amazing anime. I cried and cried and cried. It makes you think about life, you know. It makes you realise things and it just makes you feel alive.

Angel Beats! (Again?! Yup. Once is not enough!)

Angel Beats- Otonashi, Yuri-pe and Kanade

When I first heard about Angel Beats, I was told that the main protagonist, Yuri-pe, looked like Haruhi Suzumiya from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. True enough, she does. That’s what really attracted me to this anime. I have no idea about the story or what-so-ever and I really thought it’ll be a rip off of MHS, I was just hoping it would be a good one. So, I downloaded all the episodes.

The first episode isn’t really that good. It was like, nonsense for me really. It’s basically about a group of bitter teenagers blaming God for their misfortunes and rebelling because they can’t move on. It’s original but really crap. Then, I decided today to keep watching it. And I must say, I was fucking wrong.

Angel Beats isn’t anything like MHS. Yeah, it’s about a guy who basically lets himself be ordered around by an eccentric girl leader, but it’s not really focused on that. It’s about rebelling and fighting to not disappear because they have a deeper purpose, a lingering regret. The characters are given depth and made realistic by the following episodes. They aren’t just brats who are bitter and the story isn’t crap. It’s sad, painful and inspring. There’s friendship, hope and courage. Though it’s not delivered in a serious way, it’s there; together with humour and action that you’ll definitely love.

It’s a great anime. I’ll definitely crossing my fingers for a second season. Those who can share some news, link them.

P.S. I don’t do new anime reviews, I occasionally do if I started watching it. I’m usually too lazy to download and keep up with anime so… just recommend some.

I saw a trailer in a site called Metanorn and it looked really cool. So anyway, I decided to download it after I saw the review. At first, it didn’t look anything new. The story IS original and that’s a plus point. But, it was nonsense at first really. Stealing lunch meal tickets? By singing in the stage?! But yeah, there’s a lot of nonsense but it’s unpredictable and really interesting.

I think I was talking, *ahem* typing, in circles but what I want to say is, I’m definitely watching it again. The characters are pretty cliche but I think there’s more to them. Yuki is really like Haruhi from MHZ. Her hair, her face and even her actions! They’re like twins or something. Not a minus point though. And as for Angel, she’s very very interesting. I wonder what the twist will be?

I’ll update this after I watch the 5th ep.

0zero6days: Are you Alice? (Manga)

Are you Alice?

If you give me a permanent reason to exist then I’ll be Alice… If that’s no good, then I’ll blow my brains out right now.
Manga Title: Are you Alice? / 汝名艾丽斯
Manga-ka: Katagiri Ikumi (Art) / Ninomiya Ai (Story)
Status: Publishing from 2009
Synopsis: After throwing away his dreams a boy wanders into “Wonderland” and he holds the name of “Alice” which is the primary requirement in the “Game to kill the White Rabbit”. In a crazy story where common sense does not apply and everything is bound by the rules of the game and the orders of the Queen of Hearts, Alice decides to take the gun in his hand. (via mangaupdates)

Hmm… so review. So far I only read three chapters. Not that it isn’t good. It’s just that I don’t have access to it except by internet and well, no updates yet.

So, I never really knew the real story of Alice in Wonderland. I vaguely knew about Alice being in Wonderland, meeting the weird cat, being in a tea party with the Mad Hatter and meeting the Queen of hearts and her cards… and that’s it. I also knew she shrank, by the way. Having said all that, comparing this manga to the real story is not really possible to do.

But reading the manga, I’m really really excited and curious about the characters and the development of the story. It seems like the Queen and his loyal servant, the Mad Hatter can’t really be trusted… and the new Alice seems to be a psycho who killed a lot… and he’s emo too. Seriously. But anyway, the story’s development is quite interesting. With the flow of the story a few more chapters and a minimum of 2-3 volumes will be enough and just right. Well, I might be wrong if there’s more twist.

Oh, for the art, well, it’s just gorgeous! I love it and I’m planning on reading one of the artist’s work: Zanbara!

As for now, this manga has the rating of   out of 5. The art and the story are just amazing and I’ll be sure to look out for updates!
Oh, I forgot! Here’s the link to Scarlet Carnival for updates and download links!

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!… it took me 11 search for spoilers, 5 search for characters and 2 search for doujinshis until I finally remember what’s next to K. Seriously.

With Reborn around, will Tsuna finally get rid of his undesirable title and become worthy to sit at the head of the Vongola Family? (via MyAnimeList)
… and it’s still publishing.

I think I first heard of the anime when I was browsing through anime stuff. I was interested but just that. Then I was looking for pics in Forevermore Gallery, which is down because of a virus, then I saw the name… ah… I don’t remember but it’s a mangaka who draws really well. Then I search his name and saw this forum about djs in Nihomaru, which is a good site kinda like Aarinfantasy, and I got hooked with Reborn djs.

Anyway, I tried the manga and wow. I was laughing throughout the whole volume 1-4. It was really funny and even though it’s short, the chapters I mean, i love it. It’s funny and it’s unique. Normally, I don’t read manga with a lot of characters… I made an exception. But volume 5-6, well, I… let’s just say it got too much. It’s volume 6 and more and more characters are getting introduced and it’s getting sillier by the chapters. I told you I was laughing from volume 1-4? well, I was scanning through volume 5-6, i didn’t even read properly. It’s mediocre. There’s no development anymore and the characters are getting annoying. I saw in one review that if you get past 7 volumes you’re gonna get hit by a bag full of plot… well, hit me now please. I’ve been waiting for a long long time for that plot.

And so, I don’t know… will I continue reading it? Maybe. Thinking about it now, I got so far… 6 volumes. I can do it, i think.
So, scores:
Art: 9/10. I love it. it’s not so distinctive but just right.
Story: Hmm… tough. 9/10 for volumes 1-4. 6/10 for volumes 5-6.
Characters: 9/10. Love all of them. They’re so funny and lovable. Even Lambo!! Except the weird guy with Long something in his name.

So, now, over all… well, 9/10. I still love it.

Baccano!

Baccano!

Baccano!

Alternative Title:
Japanese: バッカーノ!
Other Information:
Genres: action, adventure, comedy, fantasy, horror

Synopsis:
Each of the stories in the series involves several unrelated plots intersecting and crossing each other as events spiral farther and farther out of control. Immortal alchemists, mafia operated speakeasies, and many other elements of pulp fiction mashed together for a world straight out of the movies.
During the late 1930s in Chicago, the transcontinental train, Flying Pussyfoot, is starting its legendary journey that will leave a trail of blood all over the country. At the same time in New York, the ambitious scientist Szilard and his unwilling aide Ennis, are looking for missing bottles of the immortality elixir. In addition, a war between the mafia groups is getting worse. On board the Advena Avis, in 1711, alchemists are about to learn the price of immortality.

Review:
Whoever said that this is a horror anime, sure is weird…

Baccano jumps from one timeline to another. Suddenly you’re at 1930, then 1932, then 1931, and so on and so on. At first it’s seriously confusing. Especially if you don’t know the names of the characters. Then the changes in the time also makes you want to pause every time. But even though it was like that, as soon as you get to the 3rd episode, you’ll enjoy it. Not coz that’s when it gets better, it’s coz that’s when you memorize their names.
Anyway, the story gets a 9/10 for me.

The main plot is actually simple. People are just trapped inside the moving train. ANd when I say trapped- I mean it. Because -this is the complicated part- not only do they have a group of ‘cult’ wanting to sacrifice all of them, they also have a group of psychopaths who wouldn’t want anything more than to kill them. ANd as if that wasn’t enough, there’s another group who wants to take over(?) the train! And of course that’s not all, there’s also a pair of wanted thieves board! And wait, there’s more. They have an assassin for a conductor! Now, think that’s already too much?! Well, think again. Coz there are immortals aboard too! I wonder what the people inside did in their past lives that made them deserving to have this kind of fate… Any ideas?

After that complicated stuff, I think it’s safe to say that it is, indeed, worthy of 9. But what makes this really a great story is the fact that they are all connected! Every main character is connected to each other, that it is so freaky. And even though it’s complicated, as you watch it, you begin to catch up with what’s happening and maybe, even make predictions on what’ll happen next. Anyway, the anime is really easy to understand once you get the hang of it.

As for the characters, 9/10 too.

The characters are all lovable and unique. It would take me forever to tell you why, so I’ll just make it short. THEY”RE THE BEST! It’s so hard to explain why, they just are!

For the art, it’s not that great but it’s good. 8/10.
I think this review is short so just let me make one final comment:
BAccano is worthy of your time, no matter how busy you are. The episodes always leaves you hanging. Always, always, the action is in the last part of the episode. And it’s actually frustrating if you don’t have all the episodes. And to tell you the truth, it’s too short. But it’s great. It never got boring and definitely one of the best anime this century!
Last one, I hope you won’t think that I’m over rating this, this is all my opinion. If it’s different from you then, it is. We are different after all.

Tomorrow: Evangelion (Platinum)

Evangelion: Platinum

Evangelion: Platinum

Information from Anime News Network:

Alternative title: Evangelion

Shin Seiki Evangelion (Japanese)

新世紀エヴァンゲリオン (Romaji)

Genres: action, drama, psychological, science fiction

Themes: Mecha, Military, post-apocalyptic,

Plot Summary:

At the age of 14 Shinji Ikari is summoned by his father to the city of Neo Tokyo-3 after several years of separation. There he unwillingly accepts the task of becoming the pilot of a giant robot by the name EVA01 and protect the world from the enigmatic invaders known as “angels.” Even though he repeatedly questions why he has accepted this mission from his estranged and cold father, his doing so helps him to gradually accept himself. However, why exactly are the angels attacking and what are his father’s true intentions are yet to be unraveled.

Review:

Well, first things first- I already watched Evangelion way back, when it’s very very popular. But I can’t remember anything decent except the Eva going berserk so I decided to watch it again. This time though, I’m watching the Platinum Edition.

Story- I can still remember bits of Evangelion… but not much. SO I’ll be fair and give a review for those episodes I re-watched, which are episodes 1-4. The first episode was so short and uneventful. Which sucks. Oh, when I say uneventful, I didn’t mean that there weren’t an Angel attacking and destroying stuff. I didn’t mean no bombs and missiles either. I just meant that Shinji didn’t get much action. God, he was just going EMO. Also, in the first episode, Rei was introduced but even though she’s mysterious she didn’t really steal any moment in my mind. As for the next episodes, I thin that the emo moments aren’t in the right timing. There are times that I want to know how he reacts, thinks about the world ‘on his back’ but nada! And when I want action, they show me his emo moments! Duh?!

Anyway, moving on- The story is very interesting. I’ll update this if it gets better. For now- 7/10.

Characters- Well, no one likable at the moment. Shinji is not so manly and as I said he’s so emo. But giving it a chance, I’ll say 8/10.

Art- Well, thank God for Platinum Edition! I love the new improved version! Shinji is no bishie but he’s just fine. And from what I saw when my sister is watching the old one… Definitely better. Score- 8.5/10

Over all – 7.8/10 Well Done.

Tomorrow:

Why just me?

How sad would it be to be a 14 year old saviour of the world and mankind? What happens if you mess up?

Can I really blame Shinji for being emotional most of the time?

What if tomorrow the world falls into destruction Can…no, WILL we entrust our lives to a 14 year old boy, even if he’s capable?
