Goong is a story about young love in face of tradition, politics, and intrigue. In the imaginary world, modern-day Korea is a constitutional monarchy and the Royal Family lives in a grand Palace, the Goong. Story opens with the sudden death of the reigning the King. Faced with the decreasing popularity among the public for the Royalty, a grand wedding for the Crown Prince, Lee Shin (Joo Ji Hoon), is decided to be the best publicity move to improve the image of the Royalty and at the same time prepare Shin for immediate succession. The intended bride? The headstrong, awkward, and sweet spirited Shin Chae-kyung (Yoon Eun Hye) that just happens to go to the same exclusive art school. Chae-kyung was betrothed to become the next Crown Princess by her grandfather and Shin’s grandfather.

After 14 years of living in England with his mom, Lee Yul (Kim Jeong Hoon) appears all of a sudden. He is Shin’s cousin as well as the former Crown Prince. Everything seemed to be going normally until Chae-kyung’s optimistic spirit wins the heart of internally lonely, Yul. As the Crown Prince Shin and simple-minded Chae-kyung’s relationship appear to developing deeper feelings, a series of scandals are exposed to the public right after the pair were officially announced married. Will love prevail all in a world of political pressures and martial hardships? Or will being in the spotlight of the public be too much for the young newlyweds to endure?

Review

I must say, Princess Hours was really popular in the Philippines. Hot actors, good story line and definitely a film with “kilig” factor.

STORY.  The story is cute. The main plot is not original. A girl fell in love with a guy. A guy fell in love with the girl. The guy the girl loves fell for her. Happy ending(?!). Anyway, I like the story. Kinda long and mostly funny. I watched this in a DVD coz the one in TV is so full of commercials and cuts. And yes. It’s got a MORENGLISH Subtitle. 24 episodes. I’m so patient, aren’t I? The ending was rushed. I mean, yes, I said it was long, but the last episodes was like, everything happened so fast. And it’s a really bad ending.  Oh, wait! What I really like about this film is, Chae-kyung saw her future husband proposing to another girl! The love triangle between them is not that good. I mean, it’s so obvious what’s happening.

CHARACTERS. The girl, Chae-kyung is so EMO!! She’s always sad, because of  Shin and leans for support at Yul but then says to him, she’ll never like him even in the next life! How cruel , selfish and bitchy is that?! Of course, there are times when she’s happy. But mostly that’s on the first episodes. Yul is okay. She’s trying to do his best with Chae-kyung, even asking for her for marriage. He’s always so caring, sweet and well, a li’l emo. t’s understandable though, even for Chae-kyung. Did I mention that that girl is a user? Anyway, Shin is hot. And so is Yul.  But going back to Shin, he’s the cool guy type. So I like him. But I prefer Yul. Min Hyo-rin, the girl Shin proposed to, is a little bitchy and stupid. She kept on playing hard to get, look what happened?! The other characters are okay. But character development for them is a little off.

LIVE ACTION. It kept me going for 24 episodes with Morenglish. What do you think it means?

It was good on the first episodes. But as it got longer, it got uglier. I can’t think of another term so I used that. Anyway, the other episodes just got boring and repetitive. It’s definitely a good romance thing, but I think they dragged it too long. Then there’s the unsatisfying ending. But the cast were great. The acting was fine even though not the best, the soundtrack is absolutely great and ell, the costumes, settings and effects were good.

Over all, what I want to say is: It’s a good live action. It makes you laugh and feel sad. It’s not perfect but definitely worth it. It makes you feel involve in their own world.

SCORES:
STORY- 7.5/10
CHARACTERS- 8/10
LIVE ACTION- 8/10
OVER ALL-  8/10
